Nowra-Culburra SLSC:
The Culburra Surf Life Saving Club was formed on the 6 th December 1954 at Warrain
Beach, Culburra Beach. The club was renamed the Nowra-Culburra Surf Life Saving Club in
1959 and this logo first appeared in 1966.
Lyrebird:
The lyrebird in the logo is a historical symbol of the Shoalhaven, featuring as the emblem
of the Shoalhaven Shire from 1948.
Surf Reel:
The surf reel on the logo is a historical piece of surf lifesaving equipment invented in 1906
often featuring in surf club logos as a defining emblem of the Australian surf lifesaving
movement.
Waves:
The ocean or waves in the logo represent the environment where surf lifesaving activities
take place.
Red Line:
The red line in the logo represents a phrase used worldwide to mean a figurative line in the
sand beyond which it is unsafe.
Vigilance and Service:
Surf Life Saving Australia adopted “Vigilance and Service” as its motto in 1923.
