New Nippers Welcome!

Come join us on the beach for Nippers this summer

Enjoy your Sunday mornings on the beach while your kids stay fit, make friends, gain confidence in the water and learn how to stay safe in the surf. Fill in your details below and when we have all the details available for the 2020-21 season we’ll be in touch.

Specific details for the season are yet to be finalised but generally this is how the season goes:

  • the season starts in October as the weather warms up.  Sessions run from 9-11 am each Sunday morning at Warrain Beach, Culburra.  If we’re lucky we get to watch the whales migrating south along the coast give us a tail slap in greeting (yes, really!) and there are often dolphins to be spotted too.  A kiosk and BBQ runs each week for coffee and lunch.
  • before the season starts there will be two proficiency sessions held at the local pools – every Nipper needs to attend one of these sessions to have their swimming ability assessed.
  • children are grouped into age categories based on their birth dates and everyone is provided with high-visibility vests and caps for safety.  Each group has two volunteer age managers to help for the season.
  • a parent or guardian needs to be present on the beach during the Nippers sessions. Grab a coffee at the kiosk or get involved and help out.
  • children aged 5-8 do beach-based activities and water-based fun in the shallows with the help of water safety.
  • from 8-14 years children learn to assess and manage ocean conditions and do short ocean swims, board races and relays, also with the help of water safety. At age 13 there is the opportunity to complete the Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) and become a junior lifesaver.
  • throughout the season there is the opportunity to compete in surf lifesaving events against other clubs for those who are keen.
